The Bohemian Dutchmen was formed in 1978 to provide German/Czech polka music for small parties and dances. The 6 piece band travels all over Texas playing for dances, parties, and other events, including store openings and rodeos. The basic instrumentation is accordion, drums, tuba, trumpet/tenor sax/clarinet, trombone/tenor horn, and tenor sax/clarinet. Members sing in German, Czech, Spanish, and, of course, English. The band has appeared from Dallas to Brownsville and Houston to Odessa, traveling up to 350 miles one way from its home base of New Braunfels. The band has made two recordings in addition to the four Polka Band Leaders recordings. The group plays approximately 65 jobs a year.
